The Veterinary Business Spectrum
All businesses go through 5 phases of growth, from start-up to conducting. At each phase, the business needs to invest in very specific strategies and the owner needs to adopt a change in mindset in order to progress to the next phase. Done correctly, progress follows the order of the arrows shown, reducing the risk of falling back to a previous phase.
The phase we find most owners want to reach, is the Conductor phase. This is where all 5 phases have been mastered. At this point, work turns to flow, the need for profit turns to a desire for legacy (purpose), need for control turns to an allowance of autonomy, performance management turns to mastery and progress, and employment turns to engagement.
The business owner may feel as though everything is out of control. Therefore, you need to introduce (or re-introduce) CONTROL. At this phase, the owner needs a PERSONAL VICTORY.
What you want now is stability, autonomy, and choice. In this phase the owner needs a BUSINESS VICTORY.
Hard work is a virtue, but you are in the comfort zone of stability that this phase offers. To move on, you need to build and manage your team and establish yourself clearly in the market. You need a MARKET VICTORY.
To achieve personal and professional development and interdependence, you need to take on the role of LEADER and build an engaged team. You need a TEAM VICTORY.
